About
Lachell, ThePhotogRHOphr
As an artist my interest began by creating works in the medium of painting and drawing. I came to know the camera in my early years as an undergraduate at the University of Connecticut in 2008. Today photography is almost the exclusive medium for my bodies of work. My photographs are often performative in nature and involve the exploration of identity as it relates to photographic representation. Our company name ThePhotogRHOphr.com, is inspired by my experience as a member of a historically black sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. This ongoing project aims to create an awareness of Black Greek Letter Organizations (BGLO’s). My photographs often document member initiations as well as a heavy use of portraiture. In many ways I have used the camera to tell stories that are not done justice by words alone. In my experience, being a photographer has embodied the human desire to obtain some sort of tangible immortality. It gives us an excuse to never let go of a particular moment in time that can never be relived in the physical realm but forever exist in the visual realm.
